Whole School Music

Mrs McKinnell and Mrs Parsons (Deputy Directors of Music)

This week we were delighted to host our Summer concerts beginning with the Senior School showcase on Monday evening. The concert was a huge success and really showcased the amazing wealth of musical talent we have in such abundance at BGS. The variety of music on offer was extremely wide, with the concert featuring pieces from orchestras, choirs, soloists, bands and chamber groups. The genres of music covered everything from classical to pop, rock, musical theatre, funk and folk. It really added to the evening to also see some collaborative items on the billing between BGS students and some boys from Bedford School.

The performers played with such confidence, evident enjoyment and aplomb. It was evident how much they value live performance opportunities after all the trials of the recent past. We congratulate all the performers on their commitment to their ensembles and the hard work they put in to preparing for this concert. It certainly paid off and they should feel rightly proud. The Senior concerts are always rather poignant as it is the final opportunity for girls leaving this academic year to perform and/or stage manage.

The Junior School concert on Thursday evening was a tour de force of burgeoning talent. There were many beautiful solos, with Simone Erwig playing a violin concertino and Olivia Deverill performing a spellbinding Quiet from the musical Matilda among myriad highlights. The climactic performance of Handel’s Zadok the Priest was a joyous spectacle, with the entirety of Year 6 singing or playing alongside the Junior Orchestra and Choir. What a brilliant night, with huge credit deserved by the girls who took part.

The Music Department would like to thank these girls for their fantastic contributions over this year and wish our Senior leavers all the best for the future.
