Bedford Girls’ School’s staff and students have enjoyed plenty of sporting success over the summer holidays.

Mr Castro (swim coach, pictured) claimed gold at the ETU Triathlon European Championships in Switzerland, while Miss Boston (Head of Grounds), pictured with him, also won gold for England at the Grand Masters Euro Hockey Championships last month.

Adding to these impressive feats, Alaska Simpson (Upper Sixth) was selected for the Great Britain U21s canoe team – just 12 months after taking up the sport.

Making her debut alongside two other members of the six woman squad, GB finished a respectable sixth out of 16 teams at the 20th international tournament DePaddel in Belgium.

In cricket, Izzy Gurney (Lower Sixth) received the Bucks County Cricket U17 Girls Fielding Award for the 2015 season. This accolade came off the back of becoming the first ever female captain of a Bletchley Town CC side.

For lacrosse, Katie Parrish and Kate Axford (both Lower Sixth) represented Wales U18 and England U18 respectively at the World Cup Lacrosse Festival in Edinburgh in July. Kate also played for the U16 England Hockey team at the Six Nations tournament in Germany.

In addition, alumna Robyn Armstrong continued her impressive rowing form, winning double gold with the GB women’s quadruple sculls crew at the Coupe de la Jeunesse.

In the Junior School, Holly Tutt (Year 4) last weekend became the U10 British Indoor champion in slalom ski racing, despite being one of the youngest in her class.
