A huge congratulations to talented athlete, Megan Barnicoat (Year 8), who was crowned Under 13 Bedfordshire County Cross Country Champion at Southill Park, securing victory by seven seconds in the 2.9km race on Saturday 7th January.

A member of the Bedford and County Athletics Club, this win means Megan has secured selection to represent the East region at the Elite Girls Mini Marathon event held in London this April, which is along the final 2.6km of the iconic race route and brings the best young athletes from across the UK to compete against each other. The win also brings selection for the National Inter County Cross Country Championships held in March as well.

Megan commented: “I was pleased with the result as I am so busy with my swim training. I have to rely on that and school sports rather than any running training to keep me fit for races like this. I am really looking forward to experiencing the course and atmosphere in London.”

Megan also heads to the British Schools Modern Biathlon National Championships in March at the University of Bath after winning the regional qualifier, with strong performances across the 100m swim and 1600m run.

We are so proud of Megan’s sporting achievements and look forward to following her young promising career.
