We are thrilled to announce that Alex Gentry (Upper Sixth) has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2024 Bupa Everywoman in Technology Awards.

The awards celebrate the most inspirational women working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Now in their 14th year, the awards shine a spotlight on and celebrate the tech industry’s most exceptional talent, from the UK and beyond, creating role models to inspire and attract women and young girls into STEM careers and close the gender gap within technology.

A passionate STEM ambassador, Alex has been announced as a finalist in the One to Watch category. This is awarded to a girl aged 11-18 who is actively encouraging girls to study STEM subjects at school-level or making waves in the tech space. This award seeks to identify young game-changers and is open to inspirational students.

Mrs Hudson-Findley (Director of Digital Learning, Enterprise and Sustainability) reflected on Alex’s achievements: “I was absolutely thrilled to hear of Alex's shortlisting as a finalist in this prestigious competition. Alex is an inspiration at BGS and has been pivotal in fostering a thriving STEM culture here. Her efforts in establishing BGS as an Arkwright Scholarships approved school have significantly increased scholarship awardees. Alex's journey personifies her dedication to dismantling stereotypes and promoting inclusivity in STEM. Her vision and achievements make her a true role model.”

Alex reflected: “I am thrilled to have reached the finals of the Everywoman in Tech Awards for a second time, in acknowledgement of my role in technology on a personal level but also that in supporting other women in their STEM journeys. This recognition is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the collective efforts of inspiring women in the technology and wider STEM fields.

“I believe that entering and participating in these awards is crucial, as they shine a spotlight on the contributions of women in the technology field, something often historically undervalued. By celebrating our achievements, we not only inspire the next generation of women in tech, but also showcase our appreciation of diversity, innovation, and inclusivity in STEM fields and beyond."

Many congratulations, Alex! We hope you enjoy the awards ceremony at The Park Plaza in London next month.
