Sixth Form Examinations

Bedford Girls’ School has cause to celebrate today with another year of outstanding A Level results, adding to the impressive International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) results posted earlier this summer.

49% of all Upper Sixth entries (IB and A Level combined) achieved an equivalent of A* or A grades. With 77% of all results reaching A*-B grades, 23% of the A Level cohort attained straight A*-A grades.

In total, seven students have secured Oxbridge places (three IB and four A Level students) to study a diverse range of subjects including English, French, Geography, Medicine, Philosophy and Theology.

Amongst a wide range of successes are Rachel Arrowsmith, who will take up a place to study Electronic Engineering at the University of Sheffield, and Hannah Hambleton-Jewell, who will study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

Robyn Armstrong, who earlier this month secured a gold for the women’s GB team in the junior quadruple sculls crew at the Coupe De La Jeunesse rowing championships, achieved A*, A*, B and will go on to study Human Biology at Loughborough University.

Head of Bedford Girls’ School, Miss Jo MacKenzie, said: “I am extremely proud of all of our Upper Sixth students. The results for both A Level and IB this summer have been tremendous.

“As a school we support and challenge every girl to achieve her personal best and just as we are thrilled with these super results, we also believe that education is much more than gaining a good set of examination results; it is about leaving school with a strong intellectual character, the ability to persevere and the determination to work hard.

“I am proud that our graduating students demonstrate all these important attributes. We wish all the girls the very best for the future.”
