By Miss Bream (Coordinator and Teacher of Co-Curricular Dance)
Last week our dancers shone in our biennial dance shows, this year titled Let’s Dance.
Dancers from across all age groups ,representing a wide range of genres took part in performances over two days, with Seniors taking part on Thursday 2nd May and Juniors on Friday 3rd May. Each creatively crafted piece of choreography depicted contrasting aspects, music, or genres from films. Students embraced many challenges along the way, including perseverance and physical risk-taking as they honed skills and improved their technique whilst having fun. Their energy and enthusiasm was clear to see in each performance.
These performances also provided students with a wonderful opportunity to work collaboratively within our wider school community as our younger and older dancers worked together to produce beautiful shows.
Mrs O’Rourke, Mrs D’Arcy, Mrs Power, Miss Greco, and I are very proud of our students’ efforts, commitment, and achievements during the preparations, rehearsals, and live performances.
Mr Stratton (Director of Drama and Dance) commented on the success and the breadth and range of talent at BGS: “It's truly inspiring to witness not only the talent of our students, but also the dedication to their craft; a huge and important aspect to any creative pursuit. Congratulations to all involved.
We had some fantastic feedback from audience members:
“I was hugely impressed by the quality of the dancing and the evidence of commitment and hard work that has been put in by all the girls to achieve their performance today. If I did not know otherwise, I could have thought this was a school of dance, given the range and number of performances put in. Well done to everyone involved.”
“Thought that Red Shoes was visually stunning and the Puppet performance was memorable! Amazing variety of dances with current on trend music and themes. Overall, very enjoyable.”
“The dance performances were amazing; the level of enthusiasm and skill were wonderful. Every girl was so good at the performance. The costumes, the hair were amazing, the entire ensemble is a real credit to BGS!”
