On Friday 2nd February our BGS Junior School Choir enjoyed a trip of a lifetime as they joined with 5,000 other young singers to take part in the Young Voices concert at Wembley Arena collaborating with children from across the UK.
After an excited coach trip down to London the students waited patiently to take part in rehearsals in the arena before getting ready for the big evening performance in front of thousands of parents and friends. Singing extracts from Tim Minchin’s smash hit musical Matilda, the hugely popular film Moana, and Today is Gonna Be a Great Day, among many others, our students performed their hearts out, raising the roof and creating tingles down the audience’s spines. As well as the joy of singing with so many other fantastic young people from around the country we were also privileged to perform alongside world class musicians such as renowned MOBO nominated Jazz vocalist Natalie Williams and 13 year old drumming prodigy Nandi Bushell, whose talent and enthusiasm will doubtless inspire generations of girls to come.
Despite a long day and a late night everyone came away with a sense of huge pride in their achievement and wonderful memories.
Mrs Carolyn Howe, Head of the Junior School, commented: “It was the most fantastic day, the atmosphere was incredible and the quality of the performance amazing. I am very thankful to the Music Department for giving the students this opportunity and for the months of rehearsals and planning that went into preparing our choir for the event. The girls were magnificent and wonderful ambassadors for BGS. I could not be prouder of them.”
