Over the last two weeks, our U19, U16, U15, and U14 teams have been competing in their county netball tournaments. Read the full reports below.

U19 County Tournament - Tuesday 7th November 2023

The U19s were the first to play and commenced the day with a highly competitive game against Samuel Whitbread, which ended in a draw. The U19s continued in excellent form throughout the afternoon, winning four games and losing one. Unfortunately, despite their commendable efforts, the U19s narrowly missed the final and secured 3rd place in the cup competition. We were then drawn to play BMS, whom we had previously beaten 11-4. However, BMS proved to be too strong for us in the 3rd/4th playoff, resulting in a win for BMS.

U16 County Tournament - Thursday 9th November 2023

The U16s played two days later and after qualifying for the cup from their pool group, won all five games in the cup to finish first. They faced BMS in the final and the score was tied at 9-9 at full time, prompting an additional two minutes. After a hard-fought extension, the game concluded 12-10 in favour of BGS, crowning them county champions and securing their spot to represent Bedfordshire at the Regional Schools finals in January.

U15A County Tournament - Monday 20th November 2023

The U15s participated in the final county tournament of the year. During the pool stages, BGS triumphed against all four schools (Samuel Whitbread A, Vandyke, Wootton, Henlow B) and proceeded to the cup games. They emerged victorious against BGI and Lincroft; however, these matches were closely contested. Advancing to the semi-final against Sam Whitbread, who they had previously defeated comfortably in the group stages, BGS faced a strong challenge. At halftime, BGS trailed by a goal, but a robust second-half performance led them to victory with a final score of 11-6. This advanced them to the final against BMS, which they unfortunately lost 11-7. The team’s exceptional work rate throughout the day made the school proud!

U14A County Tournament - Wednesday 15th November 2023

The U14 A team played three games (Henlow B, Vandyke, and Pix Brook) in the pool competition, securing comfortable victories. Having topped the pool, they entered the cup competition, facing tougher challenges. However, BGS exhibited remarkable determination and skill, winning all three games against Samuel Whitbread A, Wixams, and notably securing an 11-4 victory against a strong Redbourne side. This progress led BGS to the semi-final against Henlow, where they secured a comfortable 15-4 win, advancing to the final against BMS. The final began nervously, with BGS trailing 5-3 at halftime. However, a strong second-half performance equalised the game at 6-6 by full time. Despite a two-minute extension, BMS claimed victory with a final score of 7-6.
