Vision & Ethos We are experts in educating girls. As part of the Harpur Trust, we have been delivering education designed exclusively for girls for over 140 years.
Bedford Girls’ School was formed in 2009 through the merger of our heritage schools, Bedford High School and Dame Alice Harpur School, enabling us to reimagine what 21st‑century single‑sex education should look like. We combine deep experience in teaching girls with the latest pedagogy, pastoral care and technology to remain at the forefront of girls’ education.
Both of our heritage schools were founded in 1882 through the legacy of Sir William Harpur, at a time when a formal education was reserved for boys; we have always been pioneering and progressive and that continues today. We continue to invest in forward-thinking education to serve the communities of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire.
We are incredibly proud of our history and our Alumnae continue to inspire us as role models for the next generation of female leaders, creative-thinkers and change makers.
