Cadets take control

Senior School CCF

On Thursday 17th September, our CCF students had the opportunity to fly in the Grob Tutor, the RAF’s two-seat training aircraft used by cadets for Air Experience Flights.

After receiving a briefing on the ground, they climbed aboard and took to the skies, where they were able to experience the thrill of flying from the cockpit.

A particular highlight was the opportunity for the students to take control of the aircraft themselves, putting their flying skills to the test under the supervision of an experienced instructor. They also experienced a range of aerobatic manoeuvres, including barrel rolls, which proved to be a huge hit with the students!

Sahana Stachowiak (Year 11) said: “I really enjoyed my time in the aircraft and I feel like a different person.”

Sienna Bayly (Year 11) particularly enjoyed the hands-on experience, saying that “she especially enjoyed taking control and flying.”

Dr Tansell (RAF Section Commander), who accompanied the students, said: “It was fantastic to see the students' enthusiasm and confidence grow throughout the experience. For many of them, this was their first time in a light aircraft, and being able to take control of a Grob Tutor and experience aerobatics made it a truly memorable day. Experiences like this give students the chance to challenge themselves, develop confidence and discover opportunities that they may never have considered before.”

The Air Experience Flight provided not only an exciting day out, but also a valuable insight into aviation and the opportunities available through the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
