Alumna, Fay Manners (DAHS 2005) has achieved another epic climb this summer by climbing a new route on the Eiger’s North Face in Switzerland, alongside climbing partner, Roger Schäli.

The pair named the new route, which comprises 33 pitches of previously unclimbed terrain, the Solar Eclipse, as they caught a glimpse during their ascent.

Fay and her climbing partner spent 13 nights in a portaledge - a suspended collapsible platform used as a tent to carry equipment including sleeping bags, water and food - during their climb. Fay said, ‘You're hanging in this really exposed position and even simple things like cooking food and going to the toilet are really hard work’.

Based in The Alpes, Fay has made an impressive thirteen first ascents in the past two years. She says, ‘My ambition is to inspire women to pursue their interest in alpinism. I want to influence girls to go from indoor climbing to the outdoors’.
