Netball

Netball is an increasingly popular sport at Bedford Girls’ School. Played by pupils in both the Junior and Senior Schools, it is accessible, enjoyable but competitive and challenging.

The Game

With just seven players on each side, the game requires good team working skills and the ability to think well under pressure. Quick passing and footwork make it one of the fastest moving games the girls enjoy and skills, such as hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and decision making, can be readily taken from the court and into the classroom with excellent outcomes.

Coaching

Fully inclusive and, above all fun, netball at Bedford Girls’ School is enjoyed by all ages and abilities both on and off the timetable. Extra coaching is available before and after school and regular tournaments and fixtures are played at evenings and weekends as well as during the school day.

Development

As with all sports, competition is encouraged and we field an A, B, C and D team in each age group, where possible, in every tournament. This spurs each and every girl to work hard to improve her performance and rewards them with a team place even if they are not elite players. It also helps everyone understand the value of determination and practice by clearly outlining a pathway for progression.

During 2012/13, Bedford Girls’ School has taken part in numerous local and regional competitions, winning several county titles and showing great flair, talent and teamsmanship. It also underpins our commitment to providing enjoyable and inclusive sport for all.
