International Baccalaureate

We are proud to have the International Baccalaureate at the heart of our Sixth Form. The International Baccalaureate is not simply an alternative qualification. It is an ethos about the type of society we might hope for in the future and how we can deliver this through a different approach to teaching and learning. It is centred on the development of the whole student – physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

The IB aims to foster critical and compassionate thinking, respect for the diversity and richness of other cultures and attitudes, international understanding and responsible citizenship as well as providing an academically and intellectually stimulating programme of study.

At the heart of the IB is the “learner profile”, a long term, holistic vision of education that puts the student at the centre of learning. The ten aspirational qualities of the learner profile inspire and motivate the work of teachers and students; providing a statement of the aims and values of the IB and a definition of what is meant by “international-mindedness”.

Learner profile:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective.

The IB Diploma Programme is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. The programme is taught over two years and has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities. For more details on the IB Curriculum click here.
